Roadtrips, ‘Craziness’ & Getting Arrested

JBMJ.B. MacKinnon’s essay “The Road Trip” (about his careening rental-car trip to Reno with his friend Satan) appears in our anthology Far From Home. This experience, and his recent arrest on Burnaby Mountain, were the subject of Joseph Planta’s new Q&A.

“We weren’t even really intending to go to Reno… the assignment we gave ourselves was to go out on a road-trip and think about what roadtrips mean as mythology, and how the experience of road-trips has changed from the days when that mythology is born…

On road-trips we give ourselves more freedom to be attracted to craziness than we would in everyday life.”
